People never expected work from home jobs to balloon but today they are indeed growing in numbers. Never has there been such an opportunity for most people before since the common belief was that everyone had to go to the office to earn their keep.

These online jobs were mainly aimed at the mothers but today even the guys have their share of them. Blogging and Internet Marketing, manpower has been a necessity and they are being paid handsomely at that.

With this opportunity, do not be surprised when people would quit their office jobs and choose to work from home. Think of the convenience that it will bring.

Nothing Beats the Traditional Jobs

Normally, the traditional jobs such as being a clerk or accounts executive would be rampant in terms of job openings today. However, today, you may not have the same luck in landing them like you did some years ago.

Apparently there has been an abundance of graduates from various origins and imagine the number of jobs vacant today and there will be some who would not be lucky to land one today.

Some have opted to look at the specialized demanded jobs today such as nursing and computer related ones. While some are trying to bend their work to fit these jobs, it is not that simple and you just have to find the job that suits you perfectly.

Changing Jobs During Recession

If you happen to land a job in these hard times, you may as well share it with other people who are looking for work. There are still a bunch of people looking out for a decent job out there and apparently they are not having much luck as far as landing a great job to sustain their daily living.

Now if you are the one who has a job right now then be glad. Transferring from one job to another may not necessarily be the right time. Most companies are downsizing if not laying off workers. With that in mind, you are lucky to be employed at the moment.

Ian Christie of Monster.com has written an article that gives a straight-forward lecture on how to create a personal SWOT analysis. Try it for yourself and let me know how it works for you.

Tourism is one of the largest industries in the world. In fact, it has become a national endeavor to promote one’s country to foreign tourists in the hope of creating jobs and improve business. Travel agent jobs are one among the many jobs found in the comprehensive tourism job market. If you love looking at airline schedules and comparing travel packages, then a travel agent job can be good for you.

An associate or a bachelor’s degree is required to secure the position. Knowing the fundamentals of the travel hospitality is also a must. Based on the data from the US Labor Statistics, a travel agent’s income in 2002 ranges from $17,000-42,000. But there are also salary variations that depend on the travel agency’s location and size and the travel agent’s work experience and sales skills.

The advances in technology have introduced job-search conduits such as online recruiters, headhunters, job sites and job banks. Here, I will discuss job banks briefly after having done some research on the topic.

Basically, a job bank is where one can post a resume, search for a job or announce job openings. Usually, there are two kinds of job banks: those run by private sector and those run by government or states. They work like most employment agencies, the only difference is that they provide services online and do not collect fees. They match people with jobs according to skills, education, work experiences, geography and salary. Many companies are focusing on a niche market, and this resulted in the emergence of industry-specific job banks today.

Here is a short list of job banks online:

Where to Look for Summer Jobs

Whether you like it or not, summer is coming in a few months. I’m one of those who love summer as I see it as good respite from the boredom of winter. Summer is when most people are gearing either to have lots of fun or be extra productive. For those who prefer the latter, one of the best answers of course is looking for a summer job.

Aside from being a life guard at a local resort or a cashier in the neighborhood grocery store, there are other interesting summer jobs available depending on industry and the kind of workers needed. Tourism, for instance, is a thriving industry that hires extra workers during summer as a result of increase in business. National parks and travel companies are your best bet. The time to start looking for a summer job is now.

Some alternative to the stressful nursing job in hospitals.

A lot of people take up nursing nowadays in the hopes of acquiring a job that is in demand (people do get sick and nurses never fail to enter the in demand list of jobs) or perhaps hoping that they’ll get a job abroad for a better pay. Their reasons vary, really.

But another alternative aside from nursing is that of a home aide health. These people act like nurses too (they take care of sick people etc.) but what differs them from the ordinary nurses we have is that, they work in people’s homes. No, they are not caregivers, although they can also be a caregiver if they wish too, but home aide health nurses serve all age groups. If a family wants to cut down their budget into half, they can hire a home aide nurse so that the patient can stay at home yet, have a nurse by his/her side to take care of him/her.

Professional e-mail address

e-mail.jpg

You may have a wonderful resume formatted on a very sophisticated sheet of paper and you may be dressed in a very handsome suit fit for a company executive but if the e-mail address typed on your lovely resume is as avant garde as allure2130@, then the sophisticated image you’ve worked so hard to achieve is useless!

Trust me, many applicants have committed this mistake, thinking that such a simple detail will not matter. Wrong! Always, always project professionalism. Create another e-mail account. It doesn’t matter if you use one of those free sites out there, as long as the account itself is formal enough. Your best bet is using variations of your names:

Career fairs

Attending a career fair doesn’t mean just physically being there and going through the booths. You also need to prepare so that your time won’t be wasted:

Review the list of the employers before hand and mark down which potential companies interest you. You may even want to do a little background research and jot down a few questions you may want to ask them in the job fair itself.

Prepare copies of your resume or CV. Have your portfolio organized and ready.

Have a pen and paper handy for all the information you’ll be getting.

Dress properly.

When meeting the company representatives in the booths, be aware that you are not the only person these people will be talking to so be straight to the point and do not monopolize their time.

Do not forget to ask for employers’ business cards for follow-up discussions and correspondence.
